The Caregiver Program has undergone many changes by Immigration, Refugees and Citzenship Canada in recent years. Some programs, like the Live-In-Caregiver Program and Caring for Children Program have closed, while others have opened. Live-In-Caregivers are still able to obtain work permits if their employer obtains a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA).
In some cases, caregivers are exempt from the LMIA requirement. If they are qualified and receive permanent job offers, then they can be eligible for a special open work permit while they accumulate caregiver experience in Canada and qualify for Canadian permanent residence.
